Campus Coalition for Sexual Literacy

Published under:

The Campus Coalition for Sexual Literacy (CCSL) is a project of the National Sexuality Resource Center that connects students, professors, researchers and advocates conducting sexuality research, education or working on sexuality-related policy issues in order to advance sexual literacy, promote the development of training and research in sexuality across disciplines and fields, and to inform policy and practices that promote healthy sexuality throughout the life-span. These campus organizations work to build student and faculty networks that raise the visibility of sexuality research on campus, provide spaces for ideas exchange, and include traditionally excluded students, researchers and disciplines.

CCSL Leaders and Campuses

Campus Coalition for Sexual Literacy

In the fall of 2008, regional CCSL campus chapters were launched at San Francisco State University, the University of Texas, Austin, Indiana University, Bloomington, and the University of Maryland, College Park. In 2009, CCSL expanded to include six new chapters at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, University of Washington, Seattle, the Graduate Center at CUNY, Florida State University and University of Akron.

CCSL Chapters reached students and encouraged dialogue about sexuality through a variety of events and presentations. Regional training events at CCSL campuses helped students build skills to better incorporate sexuality into their research. CCSL leaders arranged a variety of speaking engagements on college campuses with academics and celebrities in the field of sexuality including Dr. Jessica Fields, Dr. Ruth, Annie Sprinkle, The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, and Dance Savage. Screenings of films that engaged with issues of sexuality and gender like Viva la Vulva, Good Hair, and Turn Me On: The History of the Vibrator were held for students and community members. CCSL leaders provided updates about their work and other insights on sexuality related issues on the CCSL Dialogues blogs. In 2009, CCSL discussion panels, film screenings, health fairs and career panels reached over 2100 student.

The Future of CCSL

The CCSL program is temporarily on hiatus. However, the NSRC remains committed to the CCSL program as a way of encouraging discussion and research of sexuality on college campuses, and we hope to restart CCSL chapters in the near future. If you're interested in seeing us bring back this unique program, you can help by donating to the NSRC.
