We are now living in a world where communicating with each other can be done with a click of a thumb. I may be living here in the US, but I can easily connect with my sister who is now living with her husband and son in Spain. How? Using Facebook and Twitter, of course!

It is through Twitter where both my sister and I found out that our dad will be married to his girlfriend. The entire world can easily viewed that anouncement if they care. But still, a news had been posted and have reached until the other side of the planet.

In other words, people are now using social media sites to be updated with the latest news. Who could forget the tweet of one journalist who happened to be at the right place at exactly the right time, and announced to the world that Osama Bin Laden's mansion had been attacked by the US soldiers. And more recently, I found out that rapper Heavy D is already dead due to heart attack.

Using social media sites can be one of the most efficient ways of disseminating information. True, anyone can simply post whatever they like on their Facebook or Twitter account. Some of them may not really be accurate. But its up to us readers to verify those information. To be sure, we can always buy essay...

It's vital that the internet be leveraged between universities within the same country and especially across countries to ensure research data is widely available. Many university libraries are making research papers and thesis work accessible online. In my shoes, as a research analyst from Northeastern University, I often find myself wading through conference proceedings and joint research papers after the fact or event has happened in order to gain insight into the advancements or work presented there.

Being able to take advantage of such online document sharing facilities such as Google docs, Dropbox, and other data which is access controlled is invaluable in delving into research work before it is formally and oficially presented at a conference or symposium. This way, I can stay abreast of developments in my particular fileld as they happen. I can recall the days when I had to travel between university libraries, spend countless hours manually sifting through research sections and wear through several of my Munro shoes to access critical research data. That was not so long ago. In this more flat internet-based academic world, I can now dig through the same volume of research through my laptop in my office ten times quicker than even 3 years ago.

So, I only hope this trend towards online accessibility and sharing of vital research data continue along the same...

Is it just me or is anyone else getting frustrated by the extreme level of sexual shaming that is going on right now in the political world.  Since this whole “Weiner-gate” scandal broke earlier this week, the level of shame is continually increasing.  Did Rep. Weiner send images and messages to other women on the internet, yes.  Did he then lie when he accidently posted a picture of his junk on Twitter, yes.  Did he break any laws, no.  Did he cheat on his wife, who knows what the boundaries of their relationship are, and honestly, its their business, not mine.

Ihad the pleasure of attending an erotic memoir writing workshop taught by Susie Bright a few weeks ago. She was in Chicago promoting her exquisite new memoir “Big Sex Little Death,” and had given a reading at Woman and Children First bookstore the previous evening. The class was great- it woke me up out of my writer’s rut, and introduced me to my awesome new blogging buddy over at Dyke Dick Dyke (we had the trial by fire bonding experience of having to read written-on-the-spot erotica to one another as strangers). Susie had us write about our most recent sexual experience as the main course of the workshop, so I’ll be posting the finished version of that vignette soon (it’s not what you think!) It was just the thing I needed to get back in the blogging and writing groove after two years of dormancy.

Fat activism makes me feel sexy.

Being a fat girl in a short dress while walking around the Marina with an enormous whoopie pie filled with vanilla buttercream (thanks, Susie Cakes!) - as was the case on Tuesday - is an act of political resistance. Because fatties have so thoroughly been pushed into the margins of society and because food and fat have been so successfully demonized the potential to perform radical acts of fat love reside within all kinds of otherwise commonplace things. My short skirt, my whoopie pie are symbols of my refusal to capitulate.  

So, when I got an email last Thursday from some fellow fatties about a direct action flash mob (coordinated by Marilyn Wann, author of Fat?So!) to protest the Obesity Treatment and Prevention Conference at the Hyatt in SF, I was all about it. An aside about the word obesity: it's a medical pathology, not a politically correct neutral word. I don't...

As i was reading the chapter on Porn can benefit society, i noticed that majority of the stuff it states is true, porn isn't really doing people much harm, it does help people learn, and understand sex life a little better. The argument that pornography portrays women as sexually submissive was also interesting, i myself find that in some cases pornography does portray women as sexually submissive, but it isn't always true, it just depends on what you watch that's all. Porn also gives a leeway for people to understand their desires a little more as well, as for people that are confused in their sexuality, porn might provide them the answer, because it will give them a chance to see which they enjoy better.
